Finished Version of Cockroach Cup 2
I have a coffee mug that I bought at an insect museum in Philadelphia which has a rudimentary ceramic cockroach at the bottom. It's just a lump painted black and brown, but it's obviously a cockroach. Several people have told me that they find the cockroach mug to be very disturbing (and I've never given in to anyone as a surprise). I think it's a great idea.
These two mugs are my attempt at a cockroach mug. I used a mold of a cockroach from a Halloween assortment of rubber vermin.
The first one has the molded cockroach attached to the bottom of the mug.
The second one has the molded cockroach pressed directly into the bottom of the mug.

Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny,
ceramic artist and potter in Tucson, Arizona.
I work in the medium of stoneware clay and make hand-built pottery, sculpture, hamsas, ornaments, masks, and a variety of other forms.
I’m a self-taught autistic artist working in my medium for over twenty years. I like monsters, insects, weird animals, body horror, folk horror, horror comedy, horror in general, Halloween decorations, fast food mascots, kitsch – all of these creep into my work, but there’s really no overarching theme.
I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.
