Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny,
ceramic artist and potter in Tucson, Arizona.

I work in the medium of stoneware clay and make hand-built pottery, sculpture, hamsas, ornaments, masks, and a variety of other forms.

I’m a self-taught autistic artist working in my medium for over twenty years. I like monsters, insects, weird animals, body horror, folk horror, horror comedy, horror in general, Halloween decorations, fast food mascots, kitsch – all of these creep into my work, but there’s really no overarching theme.

I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Eye Cup #29

This eye cup has a small round eye mold pressed into small cylinders of clay in a pattern of six eyes.  I used a lot of different glazes and it came out chaotic.

Eye Cup #24

Eye Cup #24 has a large open mouth with fangs and three eyes on each side.  The cup is distorted.  From above it looks more like a pitcher than a coffee cup.

Black Tooth Pot

It's the pot that's black, not the teeth.  I made an attempt to model the pattern of human teeth, although the top and bottom incisors are the same size, there is only one pair of pre-molars, and I ran out of room for most of the molars.

Eye Cup #22 With Spikes

This is #22 in a series of cups with molded eyes.  This one has three large blue eyes and 21 white spikes.  It's very possible to drink out of the cup without piercing one's lip.

Grinning Cat Head

I got a commission for a cat head a few months ago.  I made three.  This is the first one.  The pinkish color comes from purple glaze over plum glaze.

Eye Cup #26 With Exclamation Points

This is #26 is a series of hand-built mugs with molded eyes.  This one also has a progression of eight blue eyes and a progression of exclamation points, ¡obverse and inverse and perverse and reverse!

June Bisque Firing

I candled (heated the kiln at the lowest temperature to make sure everything was completely dry) overnight on Saturday and fired on Sunday.  I fired 26 new pots and several sculptural objects.

Cat's Eye Cup WIP

Finished Eye Cup #35

This is another experiment with my new eye molds.  This one was meant to be a cat's eye.  I arranged them in a thick strip of clay around the perimeter of the cup.  It's risky because it would be easy for air to get trapped and I'm not sure I like how it looks either.

I made several new eye molds and this is my first time using them on a cup.
