Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny,
ceramic artist and potter in Tucson, Arizona.
I work in the medium of stoneware clay and make hand-built pottery, sculpture, hamsas, ornaments, masks, and a variety of other forms.
I’m a self-taught autistic artist working in my medium for over twenty years. I like monsters, insects, weird animals, body horror, folk horror, horror comedy, horror in general, Halloween decorations, fast food mascots, kitsch – all of these creep into my work, but there’s really no overarching theme.
I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Grotesque Column Sculpture WIP
Finished Black and White Column
I was enjoying clay more when I wasn't worrying about whether something was salable.

Cat People
I like how the American Gothic farmer faces came out with their wide empty eyes and I made some cat people in the same style.
American Gothic Cup Practice Objects
These are meant to be the stern-looking farmer from Grant Wood's painting American Gothic. I also made a mug using the same farmer and these were used as practice for that. I used an off-white glaze called Queens which usually comes out brownish when applied lightly. I did apply it lightly, but the glaze was probably too thick and it came out a uniform off-white which doesn't show the details that well.
This one includes a body. One of the prongs broke off the pitchfork.
Here are the four faces individually:

Cat People WIPs
I made some cat people (and one Cthulhu) in the same style as the American Gothic farmer. Hopefully I'll be incorporating one of them into a mug or pot soon.

American Gothic Farmer Cup Practice WIP
I want to make a mug with an interpretation of the severe-looking farmer from Grant Wood's painting American Gothic and these are my practice objects for the image on the cup. I like how the larger images look, but they don't give the farmer enough forehead.
This is the image I want to use for the cup:
American Gothic by Grant Wood. Note the prodigious forehead on the man.

Crying Eye Pot WIP
Finished Weeping Eye Pot
This is a tall (9 inch) slab pot with a progression of crying eyes. I think I'm done with the crying eye pattern.

More Tears WIP
Finished Eye Cup #49
This is Eye Cup #49, another eye cup with tears. I'm not feeling especially sad, but I like how these are coming out. I have at least one more planned.
