Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny,
potter and ceramic artist based in Tucson, Arizona. Self-taught and neurodivergent, he has worked in the medium of stoneware clay for 21 years, developing a practice rooted in literal construction and obsessive repetition. He makes non-traditional ceramics in a medium built on tradition, exploring the overlap between wonder and revulsion. Subject matter includes sympathetic monsters, insects, opossums, fast food mascots, and Halloween kitsch.

I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Ceramic Alphabet #1

I got a commission to make a ceramic magnet alphabet for a young child.  I loved magnet letters when I was a child, and I was excited to make this, but I find the former teacher in me making comments about how children and ceramics generally result in broken ceramics and how my non-standardized, irregular letters are not an ideal model for a beginning reader.

I decided not to put magnets on these because I think it would interfere with the shape of the letter to have a big, black dot behind each one.  I'm going to make a second set with each letter built on a rectangular background and count this one as a prototype.

I'm also going to post images of each separate letter to show off the glazes, because it's my blog and I'm allowed to be self-indulgent.
