Aberrant Ceramics is the artwork of Aaron Nosheny,
ceramic artist and potter in Tucson, Arizona.

I work in the medium of stoneware clay and make hand-built pottery, sculpture, hamsas, ornaments, masks, and a variety of other forms.

I’m a self-taught autistic artist working in my medium for over twenty years. I like monsters, insects, weird animals, body horror, folk horror, horror comedy, horror in general, Halloween decorations, fast food mascots, kitsch – all of these creep into my work, but there’s really no overarching theme.

I am in love with my medium. I love the process of frantically birthing clay monstrosities, subjecting them to an epic trial by fire, and sending them out into the world.

Skeletal Santa

I made a Christmas tree ornament last year of skeletal Santa Claus face with some AI-sourced images as inspiration. It was damaged in the glaze kiln and this is my remake.

Damaged Santa from last year. The left holly leaf/bat wing broke off and floated across the liquid glaze into the right eye socket while in the glaze kiln. The holly leaf/bat wing is my human contribution to the design and that was the part that broke. The overall shape of the face came from one AI image and the holly leaf and berries came from a different AI image. It makes me feel dirty inside to admit to using an AI image generator for the design, but as usual, it's hot to break taboos. I'm always using found images as models and inspiration. These sources happen not to be human creativity.  Art is theft. Culture is theft.
